The next project for my little 72mm rig was the Veil Nebula. I have not managed to fix my field curvature issues, I need to get some shims or something and play around with the backfocus one night. Also, I’m not super great at processing “bi-color” images. Although the Baader UHC filter that I am currently using is not really dual-narrowband, it gives about those results.
Also, there are SO FREAKING MANY stars in this field, it was so hard to deal with. I tried my best to make a star mask and work around them, but there was only so much I could do. The warp-speed stars also didn’t mask well. I erosion morphologied the heck out of them just so you could see the nebula at all. I wish Tensorflow compiled on FreeBSD so I could try out Starnet.
