I’ve finally permanently installed my radio antenna to receive data from a GOES satellite. I am receiving a constant signal from the GOES 16 satellite that is in geosynchronous orbit over the eastern US, 22,000 miles away. This satellite takes full disk images of the earth in several bands and transmits them every half an hour. It also transmits native-resolution images of two areas of the eastern US that are of current interest. The signal is received by a cheap SDR USB dongle and is processed by a cheap, refurbished mini-PC running FreeBSD and the goestools
software. You can view the live images from the GOES section in the Live menu heading.
